Happy Friday, quilting friends! Today I am at my annual quilt retreat (yippee!), but I completed my Friendship Blocks before I left home. These blocks were simple to construct and easy to match points, but for all their simplicity they have a very pretty visual impact! Wouldn\’t the Friendship Blocks be lovely with scrappy flying geese? I need to try that some day!
We are now three months into the quilt along, and I found myself with 10 lovely Crossroads blocks. I\’ve been storing them in a raggedy plastic bag so they don\’t get dusty. (Raggedy plastic bag, dusty sewing room . . . I am not painting a very pretty picture here.) I decided to do something about that, and since dusting didn\’t sound like fun, I instead chose to make a Pouch with a View to protect my lovelies! This pattern is available from Three Owls Handmade on Etsy. I admit I was a little nervous, as I had never sewn on vinyl before. But it was a really fun change of pace and I know I will make more in the future! The pattern instructions are terrific and include four size options. I made the large pouch which is 11\” square.
And here they are . . . all tucked away and safe from the dust!

Perfection… always perfection with your blocks!! I finally tried my Best Press on mine and boy did it work wonders. Can't believe I had that stuff all along. I have the patterns to those pouches and have yet to make one. *sigh* I need more hours in a day. I'm curious where you purchase your vinyl. I'll be at Joann's on Friday. Maybe I can get some there. I love the idea of storing your blocks in there. All of mine are currently underneath my catting mat to keep them flat! 😉
Well you KNOW I am just loving on your blocks in Pam Kitty. They are so pretty and fresh. I need more hours too . . . particularly with a daughter graduating high school soon. Eeek! I did get my vinyl at JoAnn fabrics. 🙂
My girls are only 12 and 10. I still have a few years before they graduate. Congratulations to your daughter!!! I'm sure she's excited about graduating soon!!Got a question: did you use any particular size needle when sewing with vinyl? Oh, and I noticed I misspelled cutting and wrote \”catting\”. Not sure where that came from. I call that \”typonese\” language. Ha!
You always give me a giggle! I actually was going to move up a needle size from my usual 80/12, but I got so excited about what I was doing that I forgot! I didn't have any issues with the 80/12, no tension or weird stitches. I did change my needle after I was done with the pouch as I'm sure it got pretty dull!
