Hello quilting friends! I’m back with another seasonal Coffee Time Quilt for you. This time I’ve made a Christmas version in the beautiful Midnight Clear collection by 3 Sisters for Moda Fabrics.
The Midnight Clear collection includes rich traditional Christmas colors and details. For our Coffee Time Quilt, we chose the sophisticated crimson script to be the main fabric. This tone-on-tone print includes the titles of many of our favorite Christmas hymns. It is gorgeous and frames all of the mini charm squares so nicely.
My initial idea was to use a matching crimson thread for my simple straight line quilting, but then I spied a spool of Aurifil 2340 50 wt in my thread basket. I loved the warmth it added and how it pulled out the soft browns found in the pine cones and birds. The name of Aurifil 2340 is Cafe au Lait, which means coffee with milk. What a perfect thread for my Coffee Time Quilt!
I’ve written before that I enjoy “rescuing” crocheted trim from antique stores and using them in my smaller pieces. However, this month my antique store scavenging fell short. I did find this really pretty ecru crocheted trim at JoAnn Fabrics and I’m very happy with the results. In the bottom of Grandma Audrey\’s button jar I found four small wooden buttons. They add a nice, warm finishing touch.
