Here are my finished (accurate) blocks:
You may recall I am using the pretty Fleurs collection by Brenda Riddle (Moda) for my quilt. I just love sewing with this fabric, especially as I long for springtime to arrive in Minnesota!
As I was sewing my blocks together (correctly) I snapped a couple of pictures to share a tip with you. When you are pinning the sections together, it\’s a good idea to sew on the side with the half square triangles (left photo) rather than the side with the small middle square (right photo).
That will allow you to see the seam angle you want to \”hit\” with your needle for precise piecing! (You will also note that I pressed all of my seams open. I like pressing my seams open on smaller blocks.)
In case you are a new reader, this annual event hosted by Fat Quarter Shop is a charity quilt along. The patterns are free and are posted on the 15th of each month on the Jolly Jabber. Quilters are asked to donate $5 for each block pattern that they download. All proceeds will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation! What a great opportunity for us all!

1. I completely forgive you for Shoo Fly block, because it's my favorite block!! And with it being a sampler quilt, NO ONE would've noticed! (Or it could've been a \”Where's Waldo\” moment)2. Did you REALLY get up and post this at 5;00 in the bloody am?? Oh, my goodness!!

Your blocks are so perfect and beautiful, as always! I did have to chuckle at your Shoofly attempt (maybe you had your new pattern on your mind?) but really appreciate the tips you share for making these blocks a bit easier. I am doing mine all in red, but still haven't gotten this one cut yet! Hope mine turn out half as nice as yours.

I SO want to do a red and white quilt some day. I will be watching yours develop (so keep at it girl–Taunja wants to see) ha ha ha! Yeah, it turns out at least 3 other people I've seen on social media did the same thing. I'm thinking it must be quilter brain and the shoofly arrangement seemed more typical. I just found your website and noticed these beautiful blocks. How do you get them to look so crisp? Do you use extra starch and how do you press them to make them look so perfect? I will have to spend more time navigating through your website and all the pretty projects.
Hi there! Thanks so much for stopping by and for your kind words! Well, Ii do use spray starch to press my fabric before I begin piecing. (I don't use it after piecing because I think it tends to shrink the fabric a bit.) I press all seams open on small blocks to reduce bulk and to flatten small blocks, just after pressing I often lay them under a few heavy books (quilting books of course) overnight. That really helps!
