I’m embarrassed to admit this, but here goes . . . it’s been one full year since I finished my Bloom-Topia quilt top. For some crazy reason, I sort of “forgot” to send it off to be quilted. Last July, I tucked Bloom-Topia in a drawer and thought, “As soon as I get a free moment, I’ll prepare the backing fabric and get her quilted.” Apparently “out of sight, out of mind” is a real thing. But here she is, one year later . . . finally freed from the drawer, quilted, bound and adding beauty to our home.
Bloom-Topia was a 2020 charity quilt along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop, and the pattern donation proceeds benefitted the Make-A-Wish foundation of central and south Texas. The kind folks at Fat Quarter Shop host one of these charity QALs every year. The 2021 program is called Serendipity. You can learn more about that program on the FQS Jolly Jabber blog.
If you followed my Bloom-Topia journey in 2020, you will remember that I stitched my own version of the quilt using predominantly prints from the Harvest Road collection by Lella Boutique for Moda. Harvest Road is one of my favorite fabric collections of recent years, probably because it seems to fit the personality of my house.
I want to give a virtual hug to Katy at Woods Edge Quilting for the lovely machine quilting she did on my Bloom-Topia quilt. Since this sampler quilt features a wide variety of block designs and sizes, we decided on a soft and swirly loop pattern that wouldn’t cause too much distraction. It’s wonderful, Katy!
As I’m writing this, I’m wondering how many of you are pausing to think, “What do I have tucked away in a drawer that I need to get finished?” I’d like to think I’m in good company, so I’m picturing several of you rummaging through your sewing room drawers and bins, discovering forgotten projects. And with that thought, I’m feeling much less embarrassed!
