I have a new pattern to share with you today, Banded Stars! This classic pattern features two-toned navy stars banded in a pair of Moda Bella Solids (Etchings Stone and White Bleached). I think of it as a two-color quilt . . . with dimension! I’ve been percolating on this pattern for a few years actually, planning and sketching and testing until I got it just right. I hope you like it!
Back in 2020 I released a pattern called Buffalo Check Autumn, which featured my signature buffalo check motif along with oversized pumpkins and denim stars. We displayed the quilt on our guest room bed during the autumn, and then put it away during the Christmas holidays.
In January when the Christmas quilts were tucked away, I returned Buffalo Check Autumn to the guest room and folded it strategically so that the pumpkins were hidden. It became winter transition quilt when paired with a snowflake pillow. Every time I walked past the guest room I thought, I need to make a quilt with just those colors. Banded Stars has really been three years in the making!

After I published this blog post, I realized that I never showed you the backing fabric I used with my Banded Stars quilt. It’s from Corey Yoder’s “Beautiful Day” collection for Moda (Blooms Stone SKU# 29132-22). I found the yardage at my local quilt shop (Paisley Threads) and was thrilled that the color was a perfect match to the Etchings Stone Moda Bella solid. Moreover, the floral design, while gorgeous in its detail, is also very soft and subtle, making it a lovely complement to the quilt top. This quilt resides at the foot of our bed, and there are days when I fold it so that only the backing is exposed. It’s that pretty!
