Hello quilting friends! If we are friends on Instagram or Facebook, you know that my crochet obsession is still going strong. I’m enjoying it so much I know this won’t be a passing fad for me. I’m in it for the long haul. My hands are getting comfortable. I’m able to start, stop and change colors without having to rewatch the tutorial video. I can even do the initial slip knot without thinking about it. That is no small victory, considering how much trouble that simple task gave me my very first night! If you have ever wanted to crochet, I am wholeheartedly encouraging you to give it a try. If I can do it, you can too!
The granny square I began weeks ago continues to grow, one yarn over at a time, one round at a time. My goal is to make a pillow using Lori Holt’s YouTube tutorial as my guide. (I learned how to make my first granny square by watching her “How to Crochet a Granny Square Beginner” tutorial.) She is an excellent teacher. She takes her time, slowly explaining what she’s doing and giving tips based on her years of experience. I will forever be grateful to Lori Holt for sharing her time and talents with us!
I used Lori’s Chunky Thread in the colors Peony, Pebble, Cloud, Linen, Tea Rose and Frosting. And since I love blue, I also ordered a skein of Denim and made another little granny square, which may become a summer coaster I use at my desk!
Three years ago, I purchased a box of mini skeins by Scheepjes (their Stone Washed and River Washed Colour Pack). It was an impulse buy, I will admit. I bought them mostly because they were so darn cute, but also because I really wanted to learn to crochet. Well, it turns out that impulse buy was a brilliant buy ahead of its time. The other night I crocheted two cute granny squares using Scheepjes colors that spoke to my heart. While doing so, it dawned on me that these yarn colors happened to match some pretty Moda fabrics I recently purchased at the local quilt shop. I photographed them together to share with you. Pretty fabric. Pretty yarn. Oh my!
My daughter, my mom and a few friends have already requested crocheted blankets, bags, and anything else I’m willing to make them. Hold your horses, ladies! I’m just crocheting granny squares. But some day . . .
Thanks for stopping by and allowing me to ramble. Have a blessed week!
