Granny square pillow for autumn

A couple of weeks ago I shared photos of two chunky granny squares I made from the same yarn I’ve used to make my crocheted pumpkins. (Yes, I am totally getting carried away crocheting!) I’ve now joined those two chunky granny squares into a super cute autumn pillow.

This little pillow measures about 11” square and will make a nice addition to my autumn decorating.  Doesn’t it look pretty nestled in with two of my autumn quilts? The bottom quilt is my Journey’s pattern, which is fat quarter friendly. The quilt behind the pillow is from a pattern called Autumn Harvest by Brittany Tunison. Both feature Art Gallery fabrics.

To make my pillow, I followed Lori Holt’s YouTube tutorial for a granny square pin cushion! Yep, it was as easy as that! (The only difference is that while I use crushed walnuts to fill the insert of a pin cushion, I use fiber fill for the insert in my pillow.) Below are photos of the front and back of the pillow.

To make each of the granny squares, I used these tutorials:

And I used the same yarn and hook that I used for the crocheted pumpkins, Lion Brand Re-spun Thick & Quick in the following colors: Wisteria, Whipped Cream and Squash.  I also used a Clover Amour Crochet Hook (M/N 9.0 mm)

Crochet has brought additional joy to my creative life.  I feel a spark of youthful energy having learned something new, and like you all, I simply enjoy making something pretty with my hands. Here’s hoping you get carried away being creative as well.

Take care and be well and creative!
