Earlier this month, I shared my newest crochet project with you: a cheerful granny square blanket inspired by Fiona McIvor of Sew Happy Creative. Fiona, who is based in the United Kingdom, designs crochet patterns, sells hand dyed yarn and inspires crocheters around the world with her talents. Since I was having so much fun with my granny square blanket, I decided to attempt another new (to me) crochet stitch that I saw Fiona using: the moss or linen stitch. I made a very simple mug rug, but it is so darn cute that it makes me giggle. Ahhh . . . the joy of making with our hands!
Fiona has a moss/linen stitch blanket pattern coming out soon, which I am sure I will purchase. While I wait for the pattern to release, I thought I should learn the basics of a moss stitch. I am new to crochet, after all, and each new technique is a little intimidating to me. I came across a terrific YouTube tutorial by Daisy Farm Crafts. Their short video provided the guidance I needed to stitch up this little five-inch square. What fun!
I added fringe to two sides of my square, and the mug rug is now complete. I used a beautiful, vibrant variegated yarn by Scheepjes called Stone Washed Minerals Opal Ocean 906 (sport weight). These springtime colors are quite uplifting as we wait for winter to wind down. My hook of choice is a Clover Amour G 4.0mm.
I continue to be thankful for people who inspire, encourage and offer tutorials – those kind souls are helping me in my crochet journey! I hope in some small way, I may have encouraged someone else to pick up a hook as well. Thanks for stopping by!
