In January I shared a new tool I am using to stay focused on my quilting projects: the Busy Bee Quilt Binder by Lori Holt. In that post, I listed my top six projects I hope to complete in 2025, and I also listed which of those were already in progress. My three WIPs were: the Quilted Snowman, the Pink Pumpkin Quilt, and the Meadowland Quilt. I am happy to say that I finished one of those WIPs. Yes indeed, my Pink Pumpkin Quilt has been shipped off to the quilter!
The Pink Pumpkin Quilt is a fun, free pattern designed by Jina Barney for Poppie Cotton. I saw their sample quilt on Instagram last year and loved the idea of making a pink pumpkin quilt for my sewing room. I decided to mix in some butterscotch oranges as well. All of the oranges are from my stash; most of them are from Fig Tree and two of them are from Thimble Blossoms. I picked up most of the pink prints at one of my local quilt shops, Sweetwater Cotton Shoppe. The pinks are from various collections by Poppie Cotton and Riley Blake Designs. I had a grand time pulling these fabrics together. Here’s a photo I took last fall as I was auditioning prints.
I began piecing my Pink Pumpkin Quilt last autumn while on retreat with friends, but I put the project away as the holidays drew near. This past weekend it was snowy and extremely cold – the perfect excuse for me to tackle one of my WIPs! It felt great to complete this top and prep the backing. Speaking of backing fabric . . . isn’t it just gorgeous? It’s from a collection called Hannah’s Flowers by Lewis & Irene Fabrics. I found that fabric also at Sweetwater Cotton Shoppe.
It was really satisfying to put a little checkmark next to one of my WIPs and update Project Page No. 2. (I must admit, I have a little too much fun working on these planner pages.) When my quilt is back from the quilter and I’ve finished the binding, I’ll take more pictures to share with you and (of course) add them to my Busy Bee Quilt Binder. I think my diligence would make Lori Holt proud!
Hope you all are staying warm and finding time to get carried away quilting!
Thanks for stopping by!
