Hello friends! I’m back with another crochet update! Early last month, I shared my newest project: a multi-colored granny square blanket. At that time, I had completed 15 rounds of my very cheerful blanket. Now it is mid-March, and the blanket has more than doubled in size. I’ve crocheted 33 rounds, and I’m loving every stitch of it!
You may be wondering about the smaller granny squares you see in the picture. Well, I had a squirrel moment one evening as I was happily yarning over, round by round. I got to thinking (which is always dangerous) . . . wouldn’t this blanket be cute if it had a border of smaller, coordinating granny squares?
I’ve started to research the best way to go about adding a border of smaller squares that matches my vision. We quilters would call it a pieced border, which can be tricky. But as long as we have a well-written pattern and maintain a proper seam allowance, we can usually be successful! I’m not as confident about my ability to create a “pieced border” on my crocheted blanket, especially without a pattern. I see some crocheters use a “crochet as you go” method. But I have to be honest, that really challenges the way my quilter’s brain operates.
At night as I’m about to fall asleep, I think of different ways I might tackle this project. If worse comes to worse, these smaller granny squares could be joined to make a darling pillow to coordinate with my blanket. But if I’m honest, I hope I’m brave enough to give my vision a whirl.
As Clark Griswold’s mother said to him while she was standing on a snow-covered lawn in her pajamas, staring at a house covered in unlit twinkle lights: “Clark, baby, I can picture it in my mind, and it’s breathtaking.” Friends, I can picture this finished blanket in my mind, and it’s breathtaking!
