Hello friends! I’m popping in today to share a happy crochet moment with you . . . my cheerful granny square blanket is complete! From start to finish, this project was a joy for me to make. Both on the blog and on my socials, you encouraged my progress each step of the way. Thank you for that!
Back in February, I began working on this blanket after being inspired by Fiona of Sew Happy Creative. Fiona’s projects always cause me to stop and stare. Whether she is making a blanket, a pouch or a sweater for her grandbaby, she uses the most vibrant color combinations. Fiona’s work was my inspiration, and here is a photo from February showing my early progress.
In March I continued my work, adding one round every evening while my husband and I watched TV together. I was tickled at how cute this blanket looked next to some new fabric I had purchased in the spring ~ Erica Arndt’s limited collection called Sew Quilty. I think I should make a granny square quilt to go with my cheerful granny square blanket!
Later in March, I hatched a plan to add a border of smaller granny squares surrounding my larger granny square center. I was quite giddy when I found that my plan worked, and I shared a blog post AND confession with you . . . I did a happy dance around the living room when the granny square border plan worked!
In April, I continued adding rounds to the outer edge of my blanket. Someone asked me if I had a prescribed order of colors that I followed. I didn’t. I just added whichever color looked best to me at the moment.
Now it is June and the blanket is complete and oh so cheerful! Recently I added a shell scalloped edge to a Sunburst Granny Square pillow, and I was amazed at how easy it was. I decided that same edging would be the perfect finishing touch on my cheerful granny square blanket! If you’d like to give this a try, I followed a YouTube tutorial by Hooked by Robin.
My crochet journey began about a year ago, and I’m so glad I decided to try something new. I don’t foresee that I’ll ever be as confident or prolific with crochet as I am with quilting, but that is totally fine. Crochet has forced me to slow down and enjoy the process, which is something we all sorely need in this fast-paced world of ours. My encouragement to you is to pick up a crochet hook and give it a whirl!
Have a great week! Thanks so much for stopping by!
