A two-color wedding quilt for Luke & Emilee

If you’ve been following my blog this summer, then you know that we have some big events going on in our family.  Our son Luke is getting married in August, and our daughter Haley is getting married in September. It’s been a wonderful summer of planning and special events, and I am thankful every day for these blessings! But I would be lying if I didn’t admit that I have moments of fear and nervousness . . . that we won’t get something done in time, that we’ll forget something important the “day of”, that the busyness and activities will become more important that the meaning of these unions, that things won’t go off without a hitch. In my prayers I turn it over to God, knowing that He cares about my cares. And then I try to take it one day at a time, focusing on the good and expecting the best.

Last weekend we hosted a bridal shower at our home for Emilee, Luke’s fiancé. (We hosted a bridal shower for Haley in June, so I’m something of a professional bridal shower hostess by now. Ha ha!) It was an honor to celebrate this lovely young woman and to gift her with items for their home and their life together. I was thrilled to give them their wedding quilt on the day of her shower, and to snap this picture when Luke and some of the guys returned from the golf course post-shower.

Emilee has a modern but cozy style of decorating, and she enjoys a soothing, calm color palette.  And so, I made another neutrals quilt. Months ago, I asked Emilee to peruse some quilt patterns online and show me a few that caught her eye. This “Vintage Lace” pattern by Lo & Behold Stitchery was one of Emilee’s favorites. She didn’t have to twist my arm to sew up this gorgeous pattern. It’s a show stopper!

I used the same fabrics that the pattern designer used in her two-color version of Vintage Lace: Kona Solid Snow and Kona Solid Doeskin. When Emilee opened the gift, her sweet maid of honor mentioned that the quilt was perfect for her taupe-loving friend. I found the backing fabric (Snowy Brook by Robert Kaufman) at my local quilt shop. With its icy pinecones and fallen leaves, it is a subtle nod to Luke, who is a hunter and loves the outdoors.  Even the name of the panto, Netting 1, makes me think of one of Luke’s favorite pastimes, fishing! Once again, thank you to Katy at Woods Edge Quilting for finishing my project so beautifully!

In less than a month, my first born will be getting married.  Wasn’t it just yesterday that life was filled with bike rides, t-ball games, quilt forts, scraped knees, leggos, swimming lessons, story time and Rescue Heroes? That little boy I remember so tenderly in my heart is now a grown man, making a commitment to the girl he loves and embarking on a whole new set of adventures. I wish Luke & Emilee love, patience, joy, friendship and God’s grace in their years ahead.

Oh, you quilting friends are so good to let a girl get carried away!
