New pattern: Holiday Latte Mug Rug

Hello quilting friends! I’m popping in today with a new pattern for you: the Holiday Latte Mug Rug! This is a two-for-one pattern, as it includes instructions for both Christmas and autumn versions. You’ll be stitching up darling mugs featuring evergreen trees or pumpkins, flanked by an area to set your actual mug!

The mug rugs finish at 10 ½” x 6 ½”, and they are the perfect weekend or evening project. Let your creativity soar as you raid your fabric scraps to select the perfect combination of prints and colors.

As you will see in my photos, on two of my mug rugs, I created a patchwork area where a mug will rest. It’s a festive complement adjacent to the mug block. In the patchwork area, I’m spying bits and pieces I have saved from favorite fabric designers. I think some of the prints have been in my stash for over five years!

On the other two mug rugs, I simply used a piece of focal fabric – text prints to be exact.  I thought that was a nice touch as it adds happy messaging to the piece.

Another bonus to this small project is that it lends itself to simple, at-home quilting. You truly can piece, quilt and bind a Holiday Latte Mug Rug in one weekend . . . probably even one day!

Both my daughter and my mom have called dibs on these mug rugs. (I guess they will have to fight it out to see who gets which ones.) The Holiday Latte Mug Rugs would make great gifts for friends, teachers, neighbors . . . but don’t forget to make one or two for yourself as well! We could all use a cheerful place to set our morning coffee (or latte!).

The Holiday Latte Mug Rug is available in PDF form on my Etsy Shop. I hope you’ll give it a try!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I just love these, and – as always – you’ve nailed it! I, too, have some of that Fig Tree fabric left (not much, but clearly enough to make at least one of these mug rugs using those leftovers!). I’m heavily into stuffed bunny clothing, a Loch Ness Monster quilt, tiny trick-or-treat bags, and a ghost costume right now, but thank God my daughter’s returning to Turkiye Friday and taking them all with her! So, I’m free to start these mug rugs on Saturday…

    1. Oh your comment made me giggle! You’ve had your hands full. Enjoy your weekend of fun sewing!!

  2. These are so super cute! We love mug rugs for little snack or breakfast items. Need to check these out.
