Hello quilting friends! I hope you are doing well! Have you been busy sewing Christmas gifts? Are you creating any new pretties that you’ll display in your home during the holidays? I’ve been sewing for autumn, sewing for Christmas and even trying my hand at embroidery. While I’ve enjoyed it all, my most special make this fall was for our dear granddaughter who will be born in January! That’s right . . . our son and daughter-in-law, Luke and Emilee, are expecting! I’m tickled to show you the quilt I made for their baby girl!
Emilee is designing the nursery in soothing tones of pink, dusty burgundy and taupes. Luke is installing new flooring and trim in the baby’s room. They purchased their home last summer and have been quite busy with several home improvement projects. We’re so proud of them for the family life they are building together.
With Emilee’s vision in mind, I sought to create a soft and soothing baby quilt that also had a modern feel . . . something bold and eye catching but also cozy. For the front, I used a pattern called “Portland” by Seamingly Kate. This is a free pattern that you receive when you sign up for the Seamingly Kate newsletter. (Note, I did downsize it a bit so that my finished quilt was 45” square rather than 54” square as pattern is written.) I love this pattern and would definitely make it again!
On the back side, I stitched up nine darling daisies from the Fresh as a Daisy pattern by Pen & Paper Patterns. With each finished daisy, I felt a tug at my heartstrings. When I was finished, I could just imagine a sweet little girl hosting a tea party for all her dolls atop this quilt. Parenthood isn’t always easy, but honestly, my memory reel is filled with precious, simple moments from my kids’ growing years. I’m sure it’s the same for Emilee’s parents.
The Ginger Flower panto that my longarm quilter Katy used is just the perfect finishing touch! Hugs and thanks to Katy at Woods Edge Quilting, who turned this around quickly. We only had a few weeks between the gender reveal and the shower!
Emilee’s sweet mother and aunts hosted a baby shower in October for both sides of the family. Emilee and Luke (and baby girl) received so many wonderful gifts and were surrounded by love and laughs. It is a blessing to know that this little girl is already loved and nurtured. Pictured below are Luke and Emilee with their quilt, as well as Haley and me with the new parents. As you can imagine, Haley is very excited to be an auntie!
I am thrilled to join the ranks of so many of you who are grandparents! My heart is full thinking of the days and years ahead. I look forward to watching Luke and Emilee grow their family and being an encouraging part of this little person’s life. And if I’m lucky, someday I’ll also teach her to sew!
Thanks for stopping by!

Congratulations! The quilt is absolutely beautiful!!
Best Wishes to you all!! The quilt is beautiful and will be treasured. Grandbabies are the best – I’m quite the quilt-crastinator but I’ve managed 3 for my almost 7yo grandboy so far! Thank you for sharing your good news – you have a beautiful family!
What a beautiful baby quilt and I love that you made it double sided. Being a grandma is the best. I have three grand daughters and two on the way(won’t know gender until birth)
Congratulations !
Your quilt is just beautiful. I’m very happy for all of you!
