Granny cluster Christmas tree skirt

Happy New Year, quilting friends! How are you spending your day? This morning, I woke up early, brewed a cup of coffee and began my devotional time. Often I open one of Joyce Meyer’s study books or daily devotionals to guide my Bible study, but I am currently reading a book by Ruth Chou Simons called GraceLaced: Discovering Timeless Truths Through Seasons of the Heart. Just a friendly recommendation from your quilting pal, as I love both authors and have several of their books.

After breakfast, I dashed down to the sewing room for a bit of stitching therapy. I’ll admit, my mind wandered away from the project at hand, and I made a few trips to my scrap bins and pondered projects for 2026. I also reorganized some of my yarn baskets. Once again, I realized that I could probably sew and crochet from my stash for the entire year if I was just disciplined. Raise your hand if you can relate!

This distracted thinking led me to realize that I have a crochet finish to share with you: a granny cluster tree skirt I made for my small pastel Christmas tree!

Last December I shared my sewing room Christmas tree with you after I finished crocheting all the ornaments. Thanks to YouTube tutorials by Erica Arndt, I was able to make the sweetest tiny hats, stockings, stars and mittens. Even as someone new to crochet, I was able to follow along easily thanks to Erica’s clear and helpful instructions. This little Christmas tree adds a sweet sparkle to my sewing room, and I plan leave it up through the end of February.

When I finished making the granny cluster tree skirt a few weeks ago, I had a hard time photographing it nicely in my sewing room, so I hauled it upstairs to our living room for some photos. Naturally, my Pink Patchwork Christmas quilt also made the photo shoot. In just a few weeks, we will welcome our first grandchild into the world. I can’t wait to show her this little tree next year on her first Christmas!

To make the tree skirt, I followed a fabulous YouTube tutorial by Play Hooky with Me. I also purchased her pattern for this project, which is called the Tickled Pink Granny Cluster Tree Skirt. Roz teaches you everything you need to know in the tutorial, but I like to support other designers’ pattern businesses and I’m trying to get better at reading crochet patterns. So, buying her pattern and also watching the tutorial is a win win!

My yarn of choice for this project was Yarn Bee True Colors (white) from Hobby Lobby. True Colors yarn is smooth and satiny soft, and I truly enjoy working with it. My hook for this project was a Clover Amour 9.0mm.

My little Christmas tree is back down in my sewing room, where I should be too! I have a new mug rug pattern to release in a few days, and I need to get my samples quilted and bound!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Wishing you a wonderful year ahead!
