Crochet a pretty dishcloth

It’s week two of the Olympics, and I continue to ignore the housework and laundry and spend my evenings crocheting and cheering for the athletes of the 2026 Winter Games. Occasionally, I’ve been brought to tears by amazing performances or stories of an athlete’s perseverance against all obstacles.  In between the crying and eye dabbing, I’ve managed to crochet a super cute dishcloth. There’s only one problem, it’s too cute to use for washing dishes!

I did my research and found several beginner friendly dishcloth tutorials on YouTube. After creating a playlist of my favorites, I finally settled on the Cottage Dishcloth by Sarah of Rich Textures Crochet for my first project. What an awesome and easy-to-follow tutorial! The pattern consists of just two easy stitches that are repeated in every row, finished off by a picot stitch border. My dishcloth finished at 9” square. Call me crazy, but I think it’s pretty enough to serve as a candle mat or oversized mug rug!

This was such a fun, quick project that I have already started on my second one. For both projects I used a yarn called “Dishie” by Knit Picks / We Crochet. It is a worsted weight, durable yarn that is 100% cotton and intended for items that will get heavy use and washing. That said, it is incredibly soft!  On the label, Dishie calls for an I-K hook. Since I don’t own an I hook, I used my H 5 mm Clover Amour and it worked great! The variegated pink yarn in my first dishcloth is called Dreamhouse Multi. The blues you see below are Dew Drop (in progress), Wisp and Blue Steel (skeins). I think there are over 60 Dishie colors and a handful of variegated!

There is some irony in making dishcloths while I am avoiding housework. But hey, a girl has to have her priorities!  Many thanks to Sara of Rich Textures Crochet for the terrific tutorial.

Have a great week, quilting & crocheting friends!
