Crocheted dishcloths in blue

It’s the last day of February, and I am longing for springtime – green grass, chirping birds, budding trees. Unfortunately, I will have to “long a little longer,” as we are in a winter storm advisory today. Thankfully, I have a quilt top in the works, a quilt that needs binding and several crochet projects in progress. (Sound familiar?) Before I get to work on those projects, I wanted to pop in and share a trio of crocheted dishcloths I just finished.

I introduced you to my new obsession with crocheted dishcloths a few weeks ago, when I made this variegated pink one. It turned out so soft and pretty that I gave it to my daughter-in-law and asked her to test it as a bath time washcloth for our new granddaughter. If it stays soft and supple during repeated uses and laundering, I think I may crochet washcloths as baby gifts. Paired with some bubble bath and toys, I think it would make a great gift! I’ll keep you posted on that.

I used a yarn called “Dishie” by Knit Picks / We Crochet. The variegated pink yarn in the pink dishcloth is called Dreamhouse Multi. The blues you see in my new dishcloths are Dew Drop , Wisp and Blue Steel.

Dishie is a worsted weight yarn that is 100% cotton. On the label, Dishie calls for an I-K hook. Since I don’t own an I hook, I used my H 5 mm Clover Amour and it worked great! I followed a terrific tutorial called the Cottage Dishcloth by Sarah of Rich Textures Crochet for my these projects. On my blue dishcloths, I deviated from Sarah’s tutorial by crocheting a slightly different border. I saw an edging on a dishcloth tutorial by MJ’s off the Hook that I really liked, so I used her picot edging on my blue dishcloths.

These smaller projects are a great way for me to try new techniques and broaden my skills! There are so many generous crocheters who offer tutorials and inspiration on YouTube. Whenever they have an accompanying pattern for sale, I purchase that so that I can support their business. But the visual tutorials have been such a gift. I’m not sure I could have learned without them.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope your weekend allows you to get carried away with whatever hobby brings you joy!
