There is a blanket of fresh snow on my yard, so it seems like the perfect time to share pictures of my “Next Up” springtime quilt! I finished the quilt top in February, and my friend and longarm quilter, Katy of Woods Edge Quilting, was able to turn it around quickly. After I finished the binding, I took a few pictures to share with you!
I love everything about this quilt, from the soft and soothing colors, to the glorious backing, to the quilting motif! Katy and I selected a panto called Squared. When a quilt is decidedly feminine, it can be a pleasant surprise to use a panto that is more linear and contemporary.
Next Up is a big quilt, measuring at 86” square. I have been snuggling under it while working on my EPP project. It keeps me toasty warm and hopeful for spring, just when I need it most!
Next Up is a layer cake / charm pack pattern that I released in 2018. Since then, I have made it seven times! It is so quick and easy. Recently, I’ve started using fat quarters instead of layer cakes. Layer cakes will result in a scrappy quilt, while fat quarters will allow you to control the color and print placement. For this project, I use 17 fat quarters for the taupe squares.
Most of the taupe-colored fabrics are from 3 Sisters collections, predominately Muse. The pink accent fabric is Bella Solids Baby Pink. For the neutral background fabric, rather than ordering yardage, I used a 10” Stacker that was gifted to me: Pebble Bee Cross Stitch by Lori Holt. It worked out perfectly; I was able to quickly cut the 5” squares for the background pieces!
I hope you’ll consider giving Next Up a whirl. It’s a simple project that can lead to grand results, both in terms of warmth and beauty!
Thanks for stopping by! Easter blessing to you and yours!

I purchased this pattern a little while ago. I didn’t even recognize it in this color way. That’s one of my favorite things about quilting. How every pattern looks so different in different fabrics!❤️
That’s one of my favorite things too, Barb! I love it!
