Ellie and I are both using “Strawberry Fields Revisited” fabric by Fig Tree & Company for our quilts. I’m happy to report that last week Ellie stopped by to show me her progress. She is up-to-date, having completed the house blocks and the diamond blocks for the months of February and March. Don’t her blocks look terrific?
Ellie has been busy with several other sewing projects, generously making bags and quilts for friends and family members. Recently Ellie took time to sew something for herself . . . a darling, cuddly quilt using the pattern/kit “Grow Up Tall Giraffe\” (Bean Counter Quilts) which she purchased at the Noble Quilter. I\’m amazed at how many projects she tackles, and how great they all look! She is off to an amazing start as a quilter!
Not only is the giraffe comprised of a lovely mix of scrappy patchwork, the background is a patchwork of low volume prints. I think you\’ll agree, Ellie is doing a fabulous job with her piecing! To finish her quilt, she chose a soft meander for the quilting, which was done by Quilts on Broadway.
Ellie chose a plush animal print fabric for the backing, and the binding fabric is the perfect finishing touch. Excellent fabric selections, Ellie!
There\’s just something special about the community of quilters, and how we all inspire and encourage each other. Watching a talented young quilter grow in her hobby is so exciting. Ellie and I even chatted about sewing room layouts and fabric storage ideas. She totally speaks my language, and I love it! 🙂
Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today. And here\’s a friendly nudge . . . it\’s not too late to join Ellie and me in the quilt along! You can get all the details here: Crossroads Quilt Along.
I\’ll be sharing my April \”Friendship\” blocks for the quilt along on April 15. I hope you\’ll check back then and in the future when Ellie stops by to show us her progress!

What a wonderful quilt Ellie made! She has the makings of a very talented quilter, just like her mentor 🙂 Nice job on her Crossroads blocks too! Thanks for sharing her progress with us. Wish I had started at that young age.

She really amazes me I have to say! And it's all on her . . . no mentoring or teaching from me. She started sewing at about the age of 8 with her grandmother! Terrific!!
