August Sew Sampler box with Fat Quarter Shop

Hello quilting friends.  I\’m back with another fun review of the Sew Sampler box from Fat Quarter Shop. The August box is called \”Tropical Paradise,\” and it\’s just full of hot products.

But first I want to show you my fifth Basket Block from the recipe card included in the box. You may recall last month I said I needed to add more blue to my blocks, so I (very hesitantly) cut into some treasured California Girl fabric (Fig Tree & Company) and added some tropical blue.

Have you been making these blocks each month?  They are so much fun! Each month the Sew Sampler box includes a basket recipe card designed by Lori Holt of Bee in My Bonnet.  The blocks can be made in one of three sizes: 5 1/2\”, 10 1/2\”, or 15 1/2\”.  I\’m making the 5 1/2\” blocks. Dig out your scraps and join in!

Now let’s move on to all the treasures in the Tropical Paradise box.

First up I am SO pumped to have this new gadget, the YOYO Magnifier! My eyeballs have decided to start showing their age (GRRR!), and it\’s so frustrating. I am forever misplacing my glasses around the house, due to taking them off all the time to read, sew, check my phone, etc.! And recently it seems my close up vision is \”aging\” too. I know this magnifier is going to be a big help! Its compact design will make it great for adding to my sewing bag when I head out the door.

Next up we have a fun quilt pattern called \”Chuckles\” and some beautiful \”Reef\” fabric, both designed by Elizabeth Hartman. Just think of how delighted a young person would be to receive this quilt!  My kids would have loved a clownfish quilt when they were little! The Fat Quarter Shop has also thrown in a pretty spool of 50 wt. teal spotted varigated thread by Aurifil.  Yippee!

Finally, check out these reversible woven quilt labels ~ a great way to add a personal touch to a gift ~ AND the G Easy Ruler Stickers! I\’ve been wanting some of these stickers.  When I have to cut several pieces of the same size for a large project, I often mark my rulers with a little painter\’s tape.  These stickers will work much better, and of course they are cuter than painter\’s tape!  I added one to the FQS ruler in the bottom of the picture, which was a goody from a previous Sew Smapler box!

Thank you so much to Fat Quarter Shop for another fabulous box.  Every month is such a treat!

Thank you all for stopping by the blog today.  I hope you get carried away quilting real soon!

  1. The August Sampler box was my first box from the Fat Quarter Shop. I LOVED it. It was so much fun just opening the box and being surprised.Once I embraced the fact that my eyes were aging faster than the rest of me, I bought a handful of reading glasses. I put at least one pair in every room and two in my craft room. I have a pair in the kitchen and two in the bedroom. It has made life so much easier.

  2. Isn't it so much fun, as an adult, to receive a surprise box like this! I love it too!My problem is that my faraway vision is worse, so that I need glasses all the time, but then I can't see through them close up. And now my good closeup vision is getting weird. Oh the joys! Progressive lenses may be the ticket for me! 😉
