Star Spangled BOM with Fort Worth Fabric Studio: Block 3

It might be Valentine\’s Day, but I have red, white and blue on my mind! Today I want to share my third block from the “Star Spangled” block of the month hosted by Fort Worth Fabric Studio and designed by Lindsey Weight! 

Isn\’t this a pretty Star-in-a-Star block?  Once again I\’ve used mainly Fig Tree fabrics from my stash, but I also pulled in a bit of Bonnie & Camille on this block.  The navy floral on the outer star is from their \”The Good Life\” collection.
 


The Block 3 pattern calls for some pieces that are 2 3/16\”.  I don\’t have 1/16\” marks on my ruler, but I knew that measurement fell between 1/8\” and 1/4\”. I put a little sticker on my ruler so that I wouldn\’t accidentally daydream and miss the mark while cutting.  This was really helpful!



This patriotic BOM runs for five months, from January through May. I\’ve included links to Lindsey\’s posted patterns at the end of this blog post. The blocks measure 14\” square and are made using traditional piecing. Here\’s a photo of all of my blocks together. 

I\’ve been sewing from my stash, but those lovely folks at Fort Worth Fabric Studio have put together a KIT using beautiful Moda fabrics from various designers. The kit includes all material you need to create the quilt top plus binding.  They also have coordinating backing you can purchase!

  3. I always love the Fig Tree fabrics done up in a block. They are so soft and romantic. I love all your fabric choices, they are my taste in fabric even though I sometimes like a bold splash of color. How do you get your blocks so crisp… alot of starch and pressing? My blocks do not end up so crisp as yours.

  7. Thanks for your kind comments! I do press my fabric with starch before cutting, but not typically after. I just take my time and press them well after piecing. Sometimes if I need to photograph them, I also let them sit overnight under a few heavy quilting books to really flatten them out! 🙂
