New pattern: Star Watch, a jelly roll quilt

I’m so excited to share my newest jelly roll pattern with you ~ Star Watch! In this quilt, twinkling midnight stars watch over a landscape of log cabins. There’s nothing cozier than a log cabin quilt, but this contemporary layout adds a bit of flair to the cozy!

As with my other new pattern, 9-Patch Pivot, I’ve used the upcoming Harvest Road collection by Lelle Boutique for Moda, which will be available in stores this October. This gorgeous autumn fabric could actually be on display in your home year-round. While some of the prints feature acorns and oak leaves, the overall collection gives more of a nod to loving nature than any particular season.

My Star Watch pattern finishes at 64” x 74” and calls for one jelly roll and coordinating yardage. The jelly roll is used for block construction and also for a scrappy binding, which adds a charming finishing touch to the quilt! If you’ve never done a scrappy binding before, I encourage you to try it.  It’s so easy and results are definitely worth a little extra time!

Here are the complete fabric requirements:
(1) jelly roll or (33) strips 2 1/2’’ x 42’’
Navy (stars & outer border)………………………. 1 1/3 yards
Tan (middle border)  ………………………………… 5/8 yard
Neutral (blocks, sashing & inner border)……… 1 3/4 yards
Backing…………………………………………………. 4 yards
Binding: The sample shows scrappy binding from jelly roll strips. Otherwise, 5/8 yard is required.

I was absolutely tickled to see the machine quilting done by Starlit Bear of Starlit Quilts. Star used a pattern called Lovely Leaves along with a soft taupe thread, which was absolutely perfect for this quilt. It brings the cozy up another two notches, don\’t you agree? I honestly couldn’t be more pleased. Thank you, Star!

Would you like to make your own Star Watch quilt? Then zip on over to my Etsy shop. The pattern is available in PDF format. And, I have reliable news that LouLou’s Fabric shop is planning to kit this pattern when Harvest Road releases in October. I’ll keep you posted!
Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you all get carried away cozy quilting real soon!

  1. I'm making my quilt now and I was wondering if you have any tips for getting all the rows to look so straight up and down the quilt? Once I put the sashing on to both rows, I'm finding that my strips are just a little off, so that the rows don't look straight.
