You all know how much I love pumpkin quilts . . . and wall hangings, and runners and pillows! There is something so satisfying about cutting, stitching and pressing my favorite falls fabrics and watching a cute autumn gourd emerge from my efforts. Simply put, it brings me happiness. I know that many of you feel the same, so I’m excited to share two new patterns with you today: Plus a Pumpkin and Dreamy Pumpkin!
With their soft, muted colors and classic design elements, these pillows would fit the design style of many homes, from traditional to modern farmhouse. I photographed them on our guest bed, but they would also look great on a sofa or a hallway bench!
Hopefully you won’t think I’m getting too silly here, but I exclaimed out loud with an “Oh YES!” when I saw the quilting that my friend Katy (Woods Edge Quilting) had done on these pieces. Katy used a panto called Hexies, which provides fabulous texture! Notice how she centered the motif perfectly on both designs. She’s a girl after my own heart with that attention to detail! Thank you, Katy!
We’ve talked about this before but it’s worth praising again . . . small projects are great stash busters! For both of these pillows, I was able to raid my supply of favorite saved scraps from other projects. I’ve incorporated prints from three awesome Moda collections:
- The orange pieces on both
- The stems on both
- The binding on both
- The horizontal concrete-colored pieces on Dreamy Pumpkin
Christmas Eve by Lella Boutique
- The white star points and background on Dreamy Pumpkin
- The white plus symbols on Plus a Pumpkin
- The dove gray dot on Plus a Pumpkin
Christmas Morning by Lella Boutique
- The silvery gray background on Plus a Pumpkin
Both of these patterns require lumbar sized pillow inserts that measure 14” x 20”, which is sometimes referred to by the big box stores as a travel pillow. In fact, I was able to purchase my inserts at Walmart for under $4.00 each! What a deal!
Plus a Pumpkin and Dreamy Pumpkin are sold individually as digital PDF patterns on my Etsy shop. The patterns include instructions for a simple envelope style back enclosure. You could stitch these pillows tops in a weekend and have them quilted and bound before the end of summer. I hope you’ll give them a try!
Thanks for stopping by!
