9-Patch Pivot: a Christmas top completed

Hello quilting friends! Over the weekend I finished my 9-Patch Pivot quilt top, and I just had to share some photos.

This marks my third time sewing up this versatile pattern, but it’s the first time I’ve used holiday fabrics. I chose the gorgeous Christmas Eve collection by Lella Boutique for Moda. This truly is a magical collection.

I love sewing in season, don’t you? While it’s wise to work on Christmas quilts in the summer so that we can have them quilted and bound before December rolls around, there’s something very satisfying about sewing with Christmas fabric during the winter.  The decorations . . . the music . . . the twinkle lights . . . the lightly falling snow. They all provide a wonderful backdrop as we piece that red and green fabric.

There’s also something gratifying about knowing that next year I will have a pretty new Christmas quilt ready to gift or to use. I can be patient. It will be worth the wait.

It’s my sincere hope that each of you have a wonderful Christmas, and that the days leading up to it are low on stress and abundant on blessings.

Merry Christmas to you!

    1. Well thank you Lori! To be honest, this pattern really sets you up to have great piecing! The 9-patches have directional pressing and nested seams. And then the 9-patch with it’s sashing “floats” within the larger square, so you don’t have to be as concerned with those corners. But other than that, I pin A LOT when sewing. I also use a 1/4″ foot on my Bernina. (It’s a foot that the outside edge of it is exactly 1/4″ from the needle center. So I’m always running my fabric along the edge of my foot. I hope that helps!

  1. It is gorgeous in these beautiful Christmas fabrics, Taunja!
Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas – and a Happy New Year too!

  2. I have several of your patterns and have enjoyed sewing them all. This one is lovely also and I like that the joining of the four outside block pieces do not meet in the 1/4 inch seam. I also love Lella’s fabrics and have mixed her Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning lines for a couple quilts. Just finishing up the Tis the Season to be Jolly panel with the chenille. So pretty! Wishing you and your family a beautiful holiday season!

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Cheryl! I just love her collections also. I have two of the panels but have yet to try the chenille-it process. That always looks so amazing. Lucky you to have them almost done!! Merry Christmas to you as well. Thanks so much for reaching out. 🙂
