The Quilted Snowman} Stars and mittens

Hello quilting friends! I hope your new year is off to a great start! Are you carving out some time to get carried away quilting in 2025? This past weekend a few friends joined me at my house for sewing, laughing, chatting and eating. We had a great time together. I made good progress on my Quilted Snowman project, so I thought I would pop in and share a few pictures.

This weekend I worked on several star blocks, the mittens and the wagon.  Essentially the left side of the quilt is complete.

This large star block was time consuming, but not difficult. Someday I would love to make several of them . . . that would make for a stunning quilt!

I am having so much fun with this project! Auditioning fabrics, building the blocks and then watching the scene come to life on my design wall . . . it all brings me joy. If you’re looking for a smiler of a project, I would highly recommend the Quilted Snowman!

Next I will be sewing the evergreen trees which stand to the right of the snowman. I can’t wait to make them and inject more greens into the layout. As you can see, I’m running out of room on my design wall. Maybe I’ll temporarily tack up additional batting. The Quilted Snowman top will finish at 87.5″ x 97.5″.

    1. That sounds like it will be awesome Kim! You will love the project. So much fun!!!

  2. I have the Snowman quilt pattern and the suggested fabrics. I made the Witch Quilt by Lori Holt at our “Cousin’s Braless Quilt Retreat”, that the three of us take twice a year together for 8 days. It was a snap and I am totally in love with her. I think I’ll be equally in love with this Snowman. Your Snowman looks beautiful. I find Lori gives excellent instructions and her patterns are perfection.
Thank you for sharing. You gave me some lovely color combinations to duplicate for this quilt.

    1. The name of your retreat – AWESOME! I bet you girls have a great time!! Oh I’m sure you will love this one too. I agree. Lori and It’s Sew Emma always do an excellent job with instructions. They are so creative! I have been toying with doing another one starting next year some time, but I can’t decide between the Witch and the Scarecrow. They are both so cute!

    1. Hi Alice. I don’t treat the RK fabric any differently than regular quilter’s cotton. RK’s Essex Linend is 55% LINEN 45% COTTON. Whenever I’ve used it, it sews up nicely and doesn’t fray much (like some other chambrays or wovens might do.) It also washes up just like the other cotton in the quilt. I really like it!

  3. Can you tell me about your design wall? I recently moved and my design wall (styrofoam covered with flannel) got left behind.

  4. Love the background! Your fabric choices are always so nice. Thank you for the design wall info. 🙂 I had my husband come in and look at the picture to make one for me. I’m also tired of that floor design wall. LOL!
