Pink Pumpkin Quilt top is finished!

In January I shared a new tool I am using to stay focused on my quilting projects: the Busy Bee Quilt Binder by Lori Holt.  In that post, I listed my top six projects I hope to complete in 2025, and I also listed which of those were already in progress.  My three WIPs were: the Quilted Snowman, the Pink Pumpkin Quilt, and the Meadowland Quilt. I am happy to say that I finished one of those WIPs. Yes indeed, my Pink Pumpkin Quilt has been shipped off to the quilter!

The Pink Pumpkin Quilt is a fun, free pattern designed by Jina Barney for Poppie Cotton. I saw their sample quilt on Instagram last year and loved the idea of making a pink pumpkin quilt for my sewing room. I decided to mix in some butterscotch oranges as well. All of the oranges are from my stash; most of them are from Fig Tree and two of them are from Thimble Blossoms. I picked up most of the pink prints at one of my local quilt shops, Sweetwater Cotton Shoppe.  The pinks are from various collections by Poppie Cotton and Riley Blake Designs. I had a grand time pulling these fabrics together. Here’s a photo I took last fall as I was auditioning prints.

I began piecing my Pink Pumpkin Quilt last autumn while on retreat with friends, but I put the project away as the holidays drew near. This past weekend it was snowy and extremely cold – the perfect excuse for me to tackle one of my WIPs! It felt great to complete this top and prep the backing. Speaking of backing fabric . . .  isn’t it just gorgeous? It’s from a collection called Hannah’s Flowers by Lewis & Irene Fabrics. I found that fabric also at Sweetwater Cotton Shoppe.

It was really satisfying to put a little checkmark next to one of my WIPs and update Project Page No. 2. (I must admit, I have a little too much fun working on these planner pages.) When my quilt is back from the quilter and I’ve finished the binding, I’ll take more pictures to share with you and (of course) add them to my Busy Bee Quilt Binder. I think my diligence would make Lori Holt proud!

Hope you all are staying warm and finding time to get carried away quilting!

Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Thanks so much Cindy! How exciting to be a new quilter! Welcome to the club! 🙂

  2. Your quilt is stunning – love the pumpkins and the fabric you used. Did you crochet the pumpkin in the picture? I love all your crochet granny squares. Do you have a pattern source for the crochet pumpkin. Thanks.

      1. Thank you so much for your reply – I knew I had seen the crochet pumpkin somewhere – now I know where! Happy crocheting to you.

  3. As I’ve stated before, your knack at picking out fabrics is stellar! I would never have thought of mixing orange hues with pink hues, but it turned out just gorgeous!

  4. Your pumpkins are adorable and I too would not have thought of adding pink pumpkins with the orange. They all fit so well together. Love, love this so much!

    1. Well, I do love pink and it was the theme of the pattern, but they seemed to need a bit of traditional orange too. The one orange print from Thimble Blossoms (that has the pink flowers) really helped to bring the two colors together I think.

  5. I completely agree with Carolyn. You have a wonderful talent for selecting beautiful colors that go well together. Not only that, but you seem to know how much of each color to use. The balance is always spot on. I enjoy looking at your projects – thanks for sharing them.

    1. Well thanks so much Margaret! I appreciate that. Not all of my color combos are perfect. I’ve put some things together in the past that I didn’t realize I didn’t love until it was done . . . and too late. But in the end, we still have a cozy quilt to warm us. lol!
