Floribunda Rose granny square

Hello quilting and crocheting friends! I hope you are having a lovely weekend filled with your favorite people and pastimes! Spring has not yet sprung in Minnesota; our yard is still covered in several inches of snow thanks to an early April storm. But a rose bloomed last night inside my house . . . a Floribunda Rose I crocheted thanks to a wonderful YouTube tutorial by Lori Holt. Forgive my horn tooting, but isn’t she pretty?

The Floribunda Rose granny square is the latest design in Lori Holt’s crochet inspirations. It is a dimensional motif, with the petals having a slight poof. If you follow Lori on Instagram or YouTube, you know that she is making several Floribunda Rose granny squares and joining them into a darling scarf. I believe a pillow is also in the works. I’m not sure how many I will make or what they will become, but I love the look of this dainty floral granny square.

For my Floribunda Rose, I used Lori’s Chunky Thread in the colors denim, cloud and thyme. When I was finished, I quickly jotted down notes in my Busy Bee Yarn Binder (designed & distributed by Lori Holt & Riley Blake Designs). I deviated a bit from Lori’s instructions, so I wanted to make sure I had a record of my changes. (Lori often says we should be the boss of our own quilts, so I’m sure she’d encourage us to be the boss of our own crochet projects as well!)  I like a tighter looking granny square, so I did not CH1 between clusters in round 3.  Also, I only CH2 (not CH3) in the corners of round 3.  When I finished round 3, I bordered it with a single crochet of denim (3 SC in each corner).  Next, I added a half double crochet border using thyme (3 HDC in each corner). I like the way it turned out, and making some of my own decisions about my crochet project feels like growth on my part.

I am so thankful for creatives in the crochet world, like Lori Holt, who give of their time and talents. I have learned so much from them, and crocheting has brought joy to my daily life. I encourage you to pick up a hook if you are looking for a fresh creative outlet.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful weekend!

It’s beautiful. I love your confidence as a newbie to change things up.

    1. Thank you Karen! That’s a sweet observation, as I don’t always feel very confident while crocheting! You’ve reminded me how much I’ve learned. Thanks!

  2. I love your changes and love that you have shared. !! What is the finished size of your square ?
