Minnesota was blasted with snow and blizzard-like conditions this week. Our yard only received a couple of inches of snow, but areas north of us were blanketed with NINE inches and 40 MPH winds. We get a lot of snow in Minnesota, but nine inches before Thanksgiving can be a shock to the system. Winter is officially here! I’ve already introduced you to my newest pattern, the HO HO HO pillow. But I took some additional photos of it, this time nestled with a Christmas quilt I made four years ago.
The quilt pattern is called Takes the Cake by Thimble Blossoms. It’s a layer cake pattern, but I cut from fat quarters and scraps that I had on hand. Most of the prints are from Sweetwater’s past Christmas collections. I love how the prints pop off the denim background, which is Moda’s Indigo Chambray. You know that I love using blue in my quilts, even my Christmas quilts. But if that isn’t your jam, a Christmas version of Takes the Cake would be brilliant with a white or charcoal background. Here is a photo from 2021 when I finished this quilt.
I haven’t quite decided where the HO HO HO pillow will rest this season . . . in my living room, in the guest room or in our bedroom. I’m pretty sure I’ll be dashing around the house, testing it out in different locations. Maybe the decision will be made when I decide which quilt it should be paired with . . . this quilt with the denim background, or one of my more traditionally colored Christmas quilts. Decisions, decisions! I take comfort in knowing that many of you will be dashing about your homes as well, trying to find the perfect spots for your Christmas quilts and pillows!
