Have you seen my newest fat quarter quilt pattern called Rectangly? It’s my fresh take on a traditional courthouse steps design. My original sample of Rectangly featured a color palette of calming blues and taupes. I made a second Rectangly quilt top with vibrant reds and blues, creating a summertime picnic feeling. I just love it!
Rectangly calls for 3/4 yard of focal fabric and 16 fat quarters to make the blocks. My focal fabric in this version is from Brenda Riddle’s Sweet Liberty collection (which was in stores a couple of years ago). I adore that soft blue floral print, and have used it in several quilts, including Gumdrops, Stars & Stripes, Picnic, and Fat Quarter Flourish. I still have a little bit left in my stash. I may shed a tear when I use the last morsel!
For the fat quarters, I pulled some favorites I have been saving. Most of them are from Moda (including past prints from Bunny Hill, My Sew Quilty Life, Camille Roskelley, Minick & Simpson, and Sweetwater). There are also two pinky-red Tilda wovens plus a pretty blue gingham woven whose identity I don’t know! I just love it when all my favorites come together.
If you look back at my original Rectangly quilt, you’ll see that my cornerstones were scrappy. (The pattern calls for you to cut the cornerstones from your fat quarters.) But since this quilt was so bold and colorful, I decided to keep all of my cornerstones the same color. I had an extra fat quarter of a pinstripe navy which grounds the quilt nicely.
For the border, I used Tilda’s Creating Memories Red Gingham. This is another all-time favorite fabric that I have used in many quilts.
This second Rectangly top has been sent to the quilter for machine quilting. I’m looking forward to its return, so I can bind it and enjoy it for the rest of the summer. If you’d like to know more about the Rectangly pattern, please visit my earlier post. The pattern is available in PDF format on my Etsy Shop.
Have a lovely week! Thank you for stopping by!
