Sail Quilt} A pretty summer finish

If you do a little googling, you’ll find that there is some disagreement over the actual “last day of summer.”  Some folks go by the astronomical end of summer, which would be at the time of the autumn equinox (around September 22 typically). In the US, many people say that summer ends on Labor Day weekend. But I’m a seasonal quarterly planner gal, and so summer ends on August 31 in my mind. Anyway you slice it though, I’m happy to say that I finished my Sail quilt before summer’s end.

This project that I had avoided for emotional reasons, as I mentioned in my earlier post, turned out to be one of my summer sewing highlights. The pattern, by  Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms comes together quickly and efficiently. Each time I finished a sailboat block, it seemed prettier than the last. I was filled with gladness as I was sewing this breezy, cheery summer quilt top.

I selected blue and white prints from Camille’s Nantucket Summer, Shoreline and Dwell collections, as well as the awesome navy dot from Sweetwater’s Sweet Tea collection from 2018. To pair with the blues and whites, I pulled in greens from recent My Sew Quilty Life collections; I am always drawn to the soft shade of Heather’s green prints.

It feels good to have this quilt top completed well in advance of summer 2027. I’ll be sure to have it quilted and bound before June 1, so I can share finished pictures with you.  This Sail quilt will be a happy addition to our home, reminding me of all the happy moments my family has spent on the water . . . and encouraging us to be ever grateful for that blessing!
