Crossroads Quilt Along: the Chain Block

Friends, I cannot believe that we are so close to the finish line in the Crossroads Quilt Along with Fat Quarter Shop. The July assignment is the Chain Block and you\’ll need to make 18 of them.  (YES, EIGHTEEN)  But they are seriously fun, fast and oh so scrappylicious.

Joanna of Fig Tree & Company is some kind of quilting genius, don\’t you think?  From her beautiful fabric design to her splendid color placement within block patterns . . . well it\’s all just wonderful and makes for some truly happy sewing.  Look at how sweet these fabrics are together! And no, I didn\’t fussy cut that little strawberry patch.  It was a nice surprise at the ironing board!

Fair warning:  I\’m going to share a bundle of pictures today.  I\’m pretty smitten with these blocks!

The Fat Quarter Shop is hosting this quilt along, so please visit their blog to learn more! All proceeds go to the March of DimesIf you join in the fun, be sure to share your progress and creations on the Crossroads Facebook Group and also on Instagram using the hashtag #crossroadsquiltalong!

  1. I just love these pretty red blocks with the center surprise! Once again, Taunja, your blocks are perfect! Think I will sneak in a little sewing time before I start my day. Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for your lovely share this morning😊

  2. Thanks so much Pam! These blocks sure make me want to sew up and all red and white quilt some day! I hope you have a terrific day and that it includes at least a couple hours of selfish sewing! You deserve it!!

  3. I'm a recent subscriber – but I am so impressed with your blog and especially your sewing. These blocks are wonderful, as usual!! Great job!

  4. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I fell a bit behind, waaah, but catching up. I get so inspired when I'm here at your blog! By the way, did I mention your blocks are gorgeous?! 😉

  5. Tuki you are too too nice! Hey . . . when you think about it, there really isn't a schedule. It's your quilt, you'll get it done when you can!! I can't wait to see your progress though, because I really love your fabrics on this one. So, ummmm . . . maybe you SHOULD get to work and start posting! 😉

  6. On those center blocks….I always have a problem with getting them square after sewing the 4 pieces around the sides. Do you have a method for this? It shows to go around the block clockwise, but wondering if doing opposite sides first would give me a better result. Also what do you do with the pressing? Thank you my quilting guru.

  7. Oh thanks Pam. Gosh, does it show that? I did opposite sides first for sure. And on these smaller pieces I've been using spray starch and pressing really carefully so that I have better lucking squaring up. I know what you mean though!

  8. Yes, on the instructions it shows going around clockwise. When I saw your first photo here of the happy strawberry surprise block it occurred to me that doing opposite sides was the way to go. I'll give it a try. Thanks!
