Hello quilting friends! I have another Christmas quilt to share with you today. This one is for my mom, and it’s based on my Sweetly Scalloped pattern. If I weren’t concerned about landing on the naughty list, I’d be tempted to keep it for myself. I love how it turned out, but more importantly, I know my mom will love it too.
Mom recently moved into a pretty apartment for the winter months, where she’ll have access to fun activities and lots of friendly people. We had a great time selecting new furniture for her winter villa, as we are calling it. In her bedroom, she selected a white-washed headboard and coordinating rustic furniture with distressed barn red paint. I can’t wait to see this quilt on her new bed!
When I began planning mom’s quilt in the fall, I knew I wanted to use some beautiful burgundy and taupe fabrics from my stash, but I was hemming and hawing over which quilt pattern to sew. Then one night inspiration struck. I decided to use my Sweetly Scalloped pattern so that I could feature one of my favorite Sweetwater prints for the focal fabric: the vanilla text print from their Overnight Delivery collection. It is so festive . . . peace, joy, hope and love . . . what wonderful daily reminders!
My Sweetly Scalloped pattern calls for a jelly roll, but you can easily make due with 2 1/2” strips (WOF) from your stash, which is what I did. I used Moda prints from Kate & Birdie (Return to Winter’s Lane), Sweetwater (Overnight Delivery and Sweet Tea), Janet Clare (Wintertide), and Lella Boutique (Farmer’s Daughter). Don’t they blend nicely together? You may recall I used many of these prints in the Lakeside Star quilt I made for our niece and her new husband.
I had two yards of the Sweetwater text print on hand. Because of the way the text runs on the bolt (parallel to the selvage rather than perpendicular to the selvage), I had to cut my focal fabric lengthwise, not by WOF. So essentially I cut a strip 6 1/2” x 2 yards. Then I trimmed that strip to 40 1/2” wide, as my pattern calls for. From the remaining yardage, I cut another lengthwise strip (6 1/2” x 2 yards) to use across the back of the quilt. Isn’t this a nice surprise?
That wonderful backing fabric is the vanilla/red Buffalo Plaid from Sweetwater’s Overnight Delivery collection. I still have some of that fabric left over, as well as some of the vanilla text print. Maybe I should stitch up some holiday pillows!

This is my fourth Sweetly Scalloped quilt. It is so versatile. Sweetly Scalloped finishes at 59 1/2\” x 70 1/2\” and is a terrific pattern for showing off a favorite fabric. Here are the others that I’ve made:

I have this quilt pattern! This is so cute and the scalloped edges remind me of lace is why i bought the pattern. Sewing has been on hold as i'm under going house changes…reading is behind too. Enjoy seeing everything!!! thanks…
