I\’m cruising right along with my blocks for the 2020 Bloom-Topia quilt along with Fat Quarter Shop. The Release 3 blocks were super easy: two Duckling blocks (one with sashing and one without) and two Matchstick blocks.
The pattern calls for fun, multicolored Matchstick blocks, but I made mine a bit more subdued. I sure hope my color and print placement all works out in the end. It looks pretty in my mind, but I won’t know until all the blocks are completed and laid out on my living room floor. While it makes me a little nervous, I have to say that I am enjoying taking some creative license.
My version of Bloom-Topia features the lovely Harvest Road collection by Lella Boutique for Moda. You’ll notice that I used one of the tonal prints from Harvest Road for the neutral in the Matchstick blocks. But in the Duckling blocks, I’ve used Vanilla Grunge (30150 91) as my neutral. Mixing up the neutrals adds nice visual interest.
The original Bloom-Topia quilt designed by Fat Quarter Shop features the Summer Sweet fabric collection by Sherri & Chelsi for Moda. If you would like to make one just like the original, there is still time to purchase a Bloom-Topia kit!
