Recent finish: A Pumpkin a Day quilt top

Hello quilting friends! I’m popping in today to share a pretty quilt top I recently finished, A Pumpkin a Day! You know how much I love pumpkin quilts (and pillows and wall hangings and runners). This beautiful pattern was designed by Wendy Sheppard and was published in the Autumn 2022 issue of Quilter’s World.  (It looks like it is still available as an electronic issue, so I’m sharing that link here.) Wendy is a prolific pattern designer and all-around kind and positive influence within the Instagram quilting community, so I’m happy to sing her praises here.

I began working on this quilt last summer.  At that time, I was technically on my “yearlong fabric buying hiatus,” but my husband took pity on me and gifted me a fat quarter bundle of Late October (by Sweetwater) for my birthday.

I took my time over the past year, making blocks in between other projects. No matter what the season, I enjoy making pumpkin blocks. I primarily used fabric from the Late October bundle, but I also pulled in a few autumn Fig Tree prints from my stash. I love how the corners of each block create a secondary block when the top is sewn together.  So visually pleasing!

Now a year later, I have the quilt top finished and sent off to the quilter. I look forward to hand binding this quilt at summer’s end, with the promise of autumn just around the corner.

I haven’t decided if this will be a sofa quilt or a hanging quilt . . . or if I cave in and gift it to my daughter, who has her eye on it. All I know is, it looks awesome with my two new pillow patterns, Dreamy Pumpkin and Plus a Pumpkin. I may have to give my daughter one of those pillows as well! Perish the thought!

In case you have the inkling to begin some autumn sewing, I have placed all of my fall patterns on sale in my Etsy shop, now through the end of July.

Thanks for stopping by the blog! I hope you find time to get carried away quilting!

  1. Thank you for the heads-up on the pumpkin quilt. Just ordered and received the pattern and will dive in later this summer. Hard to give up a quilt when a child also would like to have it as there own too. Ask me how, I know? Experience!

  2. More darling patterns from you, Taunja! I just bought one for Fall. Love love love your designs!

  3. I have this magazine issue and loved this pattern. You’ve inspired me to get started. Beautiful.
