Starry Stockings: a chambray version!

During last week’s sweltering heat, I spent my evenings binding away indoors. Handwork is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I have always enjoyed binding. As I sit on my big comfy sofa, the repetition of placing little stitches in pretty fabric is very relaxing. My first finish was a beachy Fat Quarter Flourish mini quilt.  My second finish was this cozy, country version of Starry Stockings!

While the original Starry Stockings featured a traditional Christmas palette, this version pulls in a denim blue. I used Moda’s Indigo Chambray for the main stocking parts. The stocking band, star centers and background are all from Lella Boutique’s new Christmas Eve collection. The lighter red star points and the green band are from Red Barn Christmas by Sweetwater. The darker red star points are Moda’s Country Red Essential Dot.

For the binding, I chose this awesome text print from Lella Boutique’s older collection, Christmas Morning. It’s an unexpectedly sweet touch to see tiny holiday messages surrounding the table runner.

Once again, my project was wonderfully quilted by Katy at Woods Edge Quilting. I chose to have Katy use the same panto (Loop to Loop) that she used on my original Stary Stockings. This is one of my all-time favorite motifs for a table runner!

As much as I would love to keep this runner (you know how crazy I am about chambray), I will be gifting this cozy Starry Stockings to a long-time friend. It will be a surprise to her, and I hope it reminds her that although distance and time have separated us, she will always have a special place in my heart.

If you are looking for a fun Christmas sewing project, I hope you’ll consider Starry Stockings. It is available in PDF format on my Etsy shop. Have a great week, quilting friends!
