When Moda Fabrics announced Deb Strain’s Woodland Winter collection (which shipped to stores this month), I was immediately drawn to it. The first thing that caught my eye was the range of colors: classic cardinal reds, pine green and a lighter eucalyptus green, soft charcoal blacks and a touch of sky blue. I wish more winter collections included blue. Here is a photo, courtesy of Moda Fabrics, that shows the lovely pale blue snowflake print. Heavenly!
After being drawn in by the colors, I then noticed the delicate details of winter life that Deb so artfully captured. When describing her collection, Deb said this: “For years, our family lived in a Saltbox home in the woods. Although every season brought its own beauty, winter was by far the most wonderful. The peace and quiet of walking among the trees when the snow was falling, was truly magical! If you watched closely and were lucky, glimpses of woodland animals could be seen amongst the pines. Deer, raccoons, rabbits, cardinals, chickadees, owls, and even a family of foxes, visited the woods throughout the year.” She paints as pretty a picture with words as with her art! Here is another Moda Fabrics photo, which shows some of the precious details.
I looked through all of my patterns and decided that I needed to create a kit . . . something that you would enjoy making and would appreciate displaying throughout the winter months. I settled on my Starry Way pattern, and I’m pleased to say that I have 22 kits available in my Etsy shop. That is the limit of my inventory; that is all the fabric I was able to procure from Moda. If you’re interested in purchasing one, you’ll need to move quickly.
I haven’t made up a sample of Starry Way in this new Woodland Winter collection. But you can look at photos of my original Starry Way, which I created using a the Juniper Berry collection by Basic Grey, to get the idea of color placement. Here is a photo of that 2017 table runner:
The Woodland Winter Starry Way kit is available on my Etsy shop. It includes my paper pattern and all the fabric you need, even the backing! Starry Way finishes at 40″ x 20.” Your kit will include:
