Sweetpea Pod Kit Giveaway with Stash Addict Quilts

In early January, I became temporary enemies with one of my very nice sponsors, Stash Addict Quilts.  You see, they are Seattle Seahawks fans.  I am a Minnesota Vikings fan.  On December 30, I saw this cute Sweetpea Pod (pattern by Lazy Girl Designs) that Star of Stash Addict Quilts made up using Seahawks fabric.  It was posted to their Facebook page.  I liked it and mentioned to them that I’d love to test that pattern sometime.  Then wouldn’t you know it, two weeks later the Seahawks beat the Vikings, ending our post-season play. (Well actually, the Vikings beat themselves and so the Seahawks won.)  I forgave my friends at Stash Addict Quilts for cheering for the wrong team, and they kindly sent me the pattern.  And so it goes ~ until next football season!

This was a really fun project, both easy and slightly addictive.  After completing one, I couldn’t resist making more!  I used “Farmhouse” fabric by Fig Tree & Company for Moda.  Stash Addict Quilts has this beautiful line in their inventory, as well as the Sweetpea Pod patterns and the 22-inch Atkinson zippers in a variety of colors.  The instructions call for a 16-inch zipper or longer.  I would recommend getting the 22-inch zipper.  You will be cutting into this zipper, and I appreciated having a little extra length in case I made a mistake and needed to re-trim.  These were my pulls for the project:



The Sweetpea Pod instructions are very detailed and include step-by-step photos as a guide. It\’s a unique design, where you only end up using one side of the zipper.  It\’s really quite slick!  After making one test pouch, I continued in more of an assembly line fashion and quickly made three more!  Friends, you will really enjoy this project!

I wanted to share one sewing tip with you.  I did not use my zipper foot.  Instead, I used my walking foot because I liked how it kept the unit flat and stable. I moved my needle all the way to the right position so that I could achieve the 1/8 inch seam allowance that was called for in this first step of sewing.

These little pods would make great gifts when filled with candy, little toys, or sewing notions!

  25. Oh my goodness these are cute! I have several lazy girl design patterns and love them! They are easy to follow and always turn out adorable.   31. Oh I need one or two Sweet Peas to put my Clover clips in and one for the hair roller pins I use to pin sweater pieces together for sewing and one or two for jewelry and other little items for travel……..

  34. I've seen these before but was not sure how that zipper would be to work. I would love to try making one or two dozen of these. Wouldn't they be cute in pastels to put into Easter baskets filled with special treats? You are doing an amazing amount of enabling me this week. LOL!
