Sweetpea Pod Kit Giveaway with Stash Addict Quilts

In early January, I became temporary enemies with one of my very nice sponsors, Stash Addict Quilts.  You see, they are Seattle Seahawks fans.  I am a Minnesota Vikings fan.  On December 30, I saw this cute Sweetpea Pod (pattern by Lazy Girl Designs) that Star of Stash Addict Quilts made up using Seahawks fabric.  It was posted to their Facebook page.  I liked it and mentioned to them that I’d love to test that pattern sometime.  Then wouldn’t you know it, two weeks later the Seahawks beat the Vikings, ending our post-season play. (Well actually, the Vikings beat themselves and so the Seahawks won.)  I forgave my friends at Stash Addict Quilts for cheering for the wrong team, and they kindly sent me the pattern.  And so it goes ~ until next football season!

This was a really fun project, both easy and slightly addictive.  After completing one, I couldn’t resist making more!  I used “Farmhouse” fabric by Fig Tree & Company for Moda.  Stash Addict Quilts has this beautiful line in their inventory, as well as the Sweetpea Pod patterns and the 22-inch Atkinson zippers in a variety of colors.  The instructions call for a 16-inch zipper or longer.  I would recommend getting the 22-inch zipper.  You will be cutting into this zipper, and I appreciated having a little extra length in case I made a mistake and needed to re-trim.  These were my pulls for the project:

The Sweetpea Pod instructions are very detailed and include step-by-step photos as a guide. It\’s a unique design, where you only end up using one side of the zipper.  It\’s really quite slick!  After making one test pouch, I continued in more of an assembly line fashion and quickly made three more!  Friends, you will really enjoy this project!

I wanted to share one sewing tip with you.  I did not use my zipper foot.  Instead, I used my walking foot because I liked how it kept the unit flat and stable. I moved my needle all the way to the right position so that I could achieve the 1/8 inch seam allowance that was called for in this first step of sewing.

These little pods would make great gifts when filled with candy, little toys, or sewing notions!

Stash Addict Quilts has put together a kit for one lucky winner!  It will include the pattern, Farmhouse fabric by Fig Tree & Company, two zippers, and some fusible fleece! How kind of them!  All you need to do is leave a comment below and you\’ll be entered. (Please include your email address.) Comments are open through 3:00 pm (CST) on Friday, February 19.  At that time, I will do a random drawing and announce the winner.   *Only one comment per person/per email address.  Email me if you are having trouble leaving a comment and I will leave a comment on your behalf. Please stop by Stash Addict Quilts (just click on their link in my left sidebar) and check out their terrific selection of fabrics, patterns and notions!  And feel free to razz them about the Seahawks if you\’d like, just for me.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today!  Here\’s hoping you get carried away quilting often!

  3. Your Sweetpea Pods look so cute! I appreciate seeing your in-progress construction photos. I have this pattern, but haven't tackled it yet… I think it would be cool to make pairs of the Sweetpea Pods with matching Becca Bags for special gifts. Thanks for this fun giveaway opportunity! I'm going to check out Stash Addict Quilts for the long zippers (my local stores seem to be stocking 14\” zippers only)!

  4. I just recently discovered your blog. Just love to see the fun things you do with Fig Tree fabrics. I am a Joanna fan. So inspired by your pear quilt that my sister and I are doing that. And love the wood backdrop behind your mini quilt. These little pouches are so fun. What a great gift to bless someone with. Sharon srmdam@homesteadwifi.com
