You might say that my daughter Haley is spoiled. Spoiled with quilts that is. I’ve made her several over the years, two that she took to college to cozy up her dorm room, much to my delight. I love thinking of her away at school and comforted by quilts from Mom.
Well, last fall when I received a fat quarter bundle of Corey Yoder’s “Flower Mill” collection and Haley said she liked it, I promptly asked, “Would you like me to make you another quilt for college?” (Of course she would! The more quilts the better for that girl!) We chose my Harmony pattern, and I have finally finished Haley’s newest quilt!
Haley and I had a little fun on Sunday afternoon photographing the quilt for you. She is a good sport, letting mom take all these photos.
Harmony is a fat quarter quilt based on a three-color concept. Haley selected the fat quarters for the main blocks, as well as the border and backing fabric. Isn’t the backing fabric cheerful and pretty? And I love the multi-color stripe print from the Flower Mill collection. It is just perfect for binding!
My friend and local quilt shop owner, Barb from Quilts on Broadway did the overall machine quilting. The pattern is swirly and floral and sweet . . . the perfect complement to the fabric and my dear girl.
I do have an awesome son too. Luke may not have as many quilts as Haley, but I know he understands that his mom is drawn to girly fabrics and just loves to sew. I do have Luke on my schedule for this year. I am on the look-out for just the right fabrics for a college graduation quilt for him. I’d better get hopping, as that is just six months away!
Sewing for the people we love brings so much joy, and it’s the best possible reason to get carried away quilting!

Beautiful quilt and daughter- I know she will always treasure it. I made my daughter one for her freshman year, and then I made one out of collegiate fabric (Texas A&M) for her and the leftovers for her boyfriend when he graduated (Serendipity 1 & 2 from Missouri Star Quilt). I'm working on quilt right now for her Master's degree (Eleanor Burns Braid in a Day) which will be in May and i will need to to do one other for her PhD (She is in a dual program at Texas A&M in Aerospace Engineering. Most kids get a car or vacation and mine gets a quilt 🙂 This quilt maybe made from a Carried Away quilting pattern I purchased in the winter and I'm holding onto- 🙂 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

You've made such a beautiful quilt to go with your beautiful daughter. I have 5 boys so I know what a challenge it is to find masculine fabrics. I love when Dear Stella has a whimsical line that is appropriate for older boys. I also gravitate towards Zen chic's fabric lines. Two of my guys go to U of M so I'm making quilts with navy and maize. I toss in animals wherever I can, just cause it makes me smile. I'm sure your kids are thrilled with anything you make them.

Thanks Victoria!! I am doing some brainstorming on Luke's quilt tonight. Thankfully, he has picked a very simple design that he likes, so it's just a matter of selecting good guy fabrics, which is always tricky for me!

She is a good kid and we have lots of fun. Sometimes we are too alike and drive each other nuts, but for the most part we both know we are pretty lucky!!
