A few weeks ago, I shared pictures of a new quilt top . . . a red, white and blue version of my newest quilt pattern, Rectangly. Can you believe it has already been quilted and bound? Now we can enjoy it for the rest of the summer! While my original Rectangly quilt was soft and subdued, this second version is bright and cheerful. (I shared a lot of details about the fabric selections in my June 10 post, so please check that out.)
As with my original Rectangly, this red, white and blue version was machine quilted by Janiel Corley of Quilting with Love. Janiel used a sweet panto called Mums. I love the way it fills the space so softly, with one flower gently melting into another. Once again, Janiel used bamboo batting, which is soft and drapey. Thank you for your great, speedy work Janiel!
As I mentioned in my June 10 post, this quilt top features prints from several designers (mostly Moda) including Bunny Hill, My Sew Quilty Life, Camille Roskelley, Minick & Simpson, and Sweetwater. For the backing, I returned to a Bunny Hill print from her Hollyhocks & Roses collection. If you’ve been following my English Paper Piecing journey, you’ll know that I can’t seem to get enough of Bunny Hill prints lately! For binding, I used a navy text print from the Sweet Tea collection by Sweetwater. This collection was released back in 2019, and I have been using every last bit remaining in my stash. I will be sad when I run out of this particular print.
A quick note about the cornerstones: If you look back at my original Rectangly quilt, you’ll see that my cornerstones were scrappy, which is what the pattern calls for. But for this lively RWB version, I used a navy print from my stash. I think the all-navy cornerstones ground this colorful quilt, and I’m glad I deviated from the pattern. As Lori Holt often says, you are the boss of your own quilt!

I now have four red, white and blue quilts in my summertime lineup. In the picture below you will see Rectangly layered by these quilts (from left to right): Picnic by Cluck Cluck Sew, beachy Stars & Stripes by Camille Roskelley, and Wayne & Gordie by Carrie Nelson. It may be a couple of years before I have my EPP hexie quilt done, but I can’t wait to add her to the mix!
