Alabama Quilt} Block one

Hello quilting friends! I hope you are enjoying the first half of summer! We have been busy with lots of family activities, mostly centered around our sweet new granddaughter. As a result, I haven’t had much time to sew. But I am not complaining one bit. I am so thankful for my family and the moments we have together! I did want to pop in quickly and share the progress I’ve made on my Alabama Quilt.  I’ve only made one block, but it turned out so pretty that I thought it was worth a share!

If you read my June 16 blog post, you’ll know that my friend Ibby and I are making this quilt together.  We began by purchasing a custom fat quarter bundle from Morgan Kelly Quilts (on Instagram / Etsy), featuring lovely blue and green prints. Then we each added to that bundle some fat quarters from our own stashes.  We plan to get together in July for an Alabama Quilt sew day, but neither of us could resist making a small start.  I’ve made just the one block, but I think Ibby has sewn two! The blocks come together so quickly, it is hard to resist grabbing the next set of pieces and stitching away.  I know Ibby and I will have a blast sewing together, so I am trying to be patient!

The Alabama Quilt pattern by Joz Makes Quilts.  calls for one solid background fabric, but Ibby had the great idea that we use low volume fat quarters from our stash for background fabrics. In my first block, you will see that my background is a creamy white with dainty blue flowers.  I believe it is from 3 Sisters, but I have had it in my stash for years so I’m not entirely sure. It is a lovely print, and I’m so glad I saved it for this project!

Thanks for stopping by and checking on my progress.  If you want to know more about how we were inspired and how we got started, please read Alabama Quilt} Cutting the pretty fabric.  Take care!
