A Lakeside Star finish and a pattern sale

Hello quilting friends! Many of us are experiencing extreme heat this month, along with poor air quality due to the numerous wildfires in Canada and the United States. My prayers are with the firefighters, first responders and all whose health has been impacted by these situations. It’s a small thing, but in case these events require you to stay indoors and focus on your sewing, I’ve marked all my patterns 20% off through the weekend.  Also, don’t forget that I have many free tutorials and patterns that could provide you with some weekend fun! Many of them have very small fabric requirements so you can hit the ground running! Please take care, everyone!

I’m happy to share that I’ve completed my fourth Lakeside Star quilt.  My husband has claimed this as his couch quilt, but to be honest we are allowing it to be a pretty, thrown-over-the-couch quilt for now.  (He knows how I like my quilts to be admired for a few weeks before we use them. I’m just weird that way.)

In May I shared pictures of the completed top as well as my past Lakeside Star quilts – you can read all about that here. This is such a fun and fast quilt to make. I sewed using fat quarters from my stash; some of which were several years old and left over from other meaningful quilt projects.  I love it when a piece of fabric brings to mind another quilt I’ve made and gifted to someone.

The machine quilting on this Lakeside Star quilt was done by Janiel Corley of Quilting with Love. Janiel used a panto called Windy Swirls by Urban Elements.  I love the movement that it creates across this quilt.

Janiel and I decided to use a 6-ounce Winline bamboo batting this time.  (Janiel had used 4-ounce bamboo batting on my Rectangly quilt, and I wanted to try it again with a slightly heavier/thicker bamboo to see what that was like.) This Lakeside Star quilt is very snuggly and warm, but it doesn’t feel bulky or stiff because bamboo batting has a lot of drape. I will definitely use this heavier batting again, especially for winter quilts. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise, Janiel!

My newest Lakeside Star looks so nice next to my most recent pattern release, Rectangly.  I stitched up both quilt tops this spring, and it is obvious that I love the calming affect of blues, browns and taupes.  Maybe these are the new his and hers quilts for our evening TV watching! Lakeside Star for Brad.  Rectangly for Taunja!

Both Lakeside Star and Rectangly are fat quarter friendly. I also have a free fat quarter friendly pattern on my blog called Floating Squares!  Maybe it’s time you busted into some of your saved fat quarters and stitched up a pretty new quilt for yourself or a loved one.

Stay cool, stay safe and get carried away quilting!

  1. You always pick such beautiful colors and great work! Is the fabric from your stash? Do you remember the name of the backing ? I really like iy

    1. Thanks so much Nan! Yes, most of the fat quarters were from my stash. I did purchase a couple of the browns from a local quilt shop. I also purchased the backing from my local quilt shop (Paisley Threads in New London, MN). It is from the Gingham Cottage collection by Heather Peterson.
